Our charity's milestones

Detailing the milestones you've helped create

£5,000 raised & we're a registered UK charity – thank you!

Thanks to your dontations St Margaret Life's Hope is now a registered UK charity. The benefits of this include:

The ability to accept monthly donations

Registration allows provision for this and enable better future planning through regular monthly donations.

Allows us to expand our projects & reach in Lamu

With UK registration comes the opportunity for regular funding allowing us to better plan and expand our support network for the people we help.

Better provision for all

Our projects are a 24 hour, 7 day a week commitment — food, clothing, medicine, through to education for young and old. Regular funding will improve the support we offer.

Enhance our credibility

We understand that credibility and transparency are an important part of running a charity, our registration enhances and underpins our dedication and commitment.

Purchase of suitable land for future schooling

We are looking to raise funds for the procurement of  suitable land for our future education plans.

There are children who are learning in unsafe conditions, including those of the nomadic Wasanya tribe. Consisting of a little over 2,000 people and not recognised in the official government census, we aim to incorporate this marginalised population's children in any future schooling the charity might provide.

Our first step to ensure safe schooling is the procurement of land covered with an official deed of title. We firmly believe that suitable land is the key to unlocking our future plans for education and a school that will not be at the mercy of landowners.

Benefits to our Lamu community

• Enhancing effective learning

• Attracting enrolment in school

• Ensuring a better future for Lamu communities

Our next milestone

Provision for adequate toilet facilities

If water is life then sanitation is dignity and it is this aspect which is absent throughout Lamu. Poor sanitary conditions are aggravated through lack of planning with only the most basic ad-hoc facilities that characterise most Kenyan fringe communities available.

The benefits of adequate toilets for those under our care are safer environments that will influence children’s wellbeing. This coupled with a proper hygiene education in the classroom will help.

Benefits to our community

• Enhancing effective learning

• Attracting enrolment in school

• Sustaining a reduced burden of disease among locals

Quotes for tender

Tenders from local builders to build two long drop toilets and washing facilities have been received. On completion they will provide hygienic living conditions for those under our care.
